The Legends of the American West was incorporated in Hayward California in 1986. Prior to that, the group was known as
Gunfighters of the Old West.
In the beginning, members of the Legends consisted mostly of people residing in the San Francisco Bay Area. As time passed, the membership expanded into the San Joaquin Valley and the Mother Lode country of Northern California and even as far away as Las Vegas Nevada.
Members of the Legends come from all walks of life and range in age from the Teens into the 80's, and at this time roster an average of 35 members, with around 12-15 at each event being the norm. It's the family atmosphere always present each time we get together that makes it so rewarding, not to mention the feeling of pride for helping keep the Old West alive.
Over the years, the Legends have performed at the World Famous O.K. Corral in Tombstone Arizona, the Territorial Prison in Yuma Arizona, the Ponderosa Ranch in Nevada and various county fairs, street fairs, private parties, historical celebrations and charitable events throughout California.
In 1998, the Legends became affiliated with the Old West Living History Foundation and the American Federation of Old West Reenactors, and have since participated in O.W.L.H.F. sponsored competitions, having won numerous praises and awards, including the prestigious 2002 Old West Living History Foundation Grand National Championship. As you can imagine, the Legends are very proud of their Championship Title.
The Legends of the American West strive to be the best in all aspects of historical reenacting, and invite you to become a part of the fun and excitement that is the "Legends of the American West"!
